Welcome to the Jewel of the Desert.

Built in 1907 during Nevada’s silver boom, the Mizpah Hotel has stood for more than a century as a symbol of frontier spirit and timeless hospitality. Today, beautifully restored and family-owned, the Mizpah welcomes guests from all walks of life seeking history, comfort, and a sense of place.

1907

The Mizpah Hotel officially opens its doors in Tonopah, Nevada. At five stories tall, it becomes the tallest building in the state and an immediate symbol of the region’s silver boom prosperity. Built with stone quarried locally and furnished with the finest materials of its time, the Mizpah quickly earns its reputation as “the finest stone hotel in the desert.”

1920's

The hotel becomes a hub for notable figures of the Wild West and early 20th-century America. Boxing legend Jack Dempsey is said to have worked at the Mizpah, and lawman Wyatt Earp reportedly frequented the bar. During this time, the hotel flourishes as a gathering place for miners, travelers, politicians, and frontier personalities.

1970's

After decades of grandeur, the Mizpah enters a period of decline as the region's mining economy fades. The hotel eventually closes its doors and falls into disrepair, becoming more known for ghost stories than guest service. Its rich history begins to slip into legend, though its iconic presence remains central in Tonopah’s landscape.

2011

Fred and Nancy Cline purchase the Mizpah Hotel and begin a meticulous restoration. Honoring the original architecture and spirit of the building, they bring the hotel back to life—combining historical accuracy with modern comforts. Their work sparks renewed interest in Tonopah and paves the way for other revitalization projects in town.

Today

The Mizpah Hotel is recognized as one of the most unique and historic places to stay in Nevada. With restored rooms, elegant dining, and personalized hospitality, it serves as a living landmark—welcoming guests from across the country who come not just to stay, but to connect with history, heritage, and the heart of Tonopah.

The Clines

Fred and Nancy Cline were first drawn to Tonopah through a family connection, but it was the town’s untapped charm, rich history, and welcoming community that inspired them to stay. Captivated by its potential, the Clines saw an opportunity not just to restore a building—but to breathe new life into a Nevada landmark.

In 2011, they acquired the Mizpah Hotel and began a thoughtful renovation that honored its original grandeur while adding modern comfort. Since then, they’ve continued investing in the town’s revival through the restoration of the Belvada Hotel and the opening of the Tonopah Brewing Company. Today, their passion for heritage and hospitality is felt in every room, every hallway, and every guest experience.
